A word or two from the producer of "The Burglar CD.
"I’m an English recording engineer who lives in Portugal, I have a recording studio with expensive recording equipment and expensive musical instruments.
The thought of a burglary when I’m away and all my precious work tools stolen or damaged has always been a worry.
This is why I developed the idea of “The Burglar CD”. Leaving a radio or television on never really did the job (just sounds like a radio or TV), what I needed was the sound of people engaging in normal, unscripted, everyday, conversation, without the jingles, music, or announcements that occur with radio or TV.
The recording would have to sound real from outside the home, so any intruder would be convinced that the home is occupied and not enter.
Many hours of recording and experimenting with sound manipulation have gone into the making of “The Burglar CD” and the results work well. The most difficult process was to get the recording to sound convincing from outside the home.
Its a secure feeling returning home after a few hours (and even days) to the sound of people chatting away in your home, it seems alive and occupied as you turn the key in the door.
I’m convinced a very high percentage of burglars avoid confrontation at all costs, so an occupied house would be avoided.
Here in the Algarve Portugal burglary is rife, I have spoken to so many ex-pats who have had their homes burgled, their expensive alarm systems and security cameras didn't save them from the misery and distress caused by burglary, I’ve been playing “The Burglar CD” for over 2 years now when I am out, and have never had a burglary.
